Living in Peru : your everyday companion

Here LivinginPeru.com presents a short travelogue about Peru made in 1937 and shown in theaters throughout the world. The film highlights Lima, Huancayo, Arequipa and Lake Titicaca. Starting in Lima you can see some of the features in the Plaza San Martin and Plaza de Armas that have changed as well as others that have remained the same. The Hotel Bolivar remains, as does the building once called the Teatro Colon, only now without its magnificent dome. The Plaza de Armas has lost its magnificent palm trees. But little else has changed. In Huancayo the Sunday market is still going strong. The Plaza de Armas in Arequipa and the buildings surrounding it remain untouched. The reed boats of Lake Titicaca still sail out with the sunrise and in with the sunset. The lake still looms large in your camera’s viewer and remains the highest navigable lake in the world.



You will find the film's tone towards native Peruvians interesting. Much has changed since this piece was done, you will see a lot more tourists in these places for one thing. The undeniable beauty of Peru comes through easily and their comparison at one point to Egypt is well founded since both have ancient cultures that stretch far back. The richness of Peru’s vistas have changed little since this filming and the charm and splendor of Peru and its people are never changing. If you haven’t visited this wonderful country, now is the time.

Jon, Same thing that happened to NYC and LA in the US, overpopulation. NYC is dirty but mostly a good city, LA is gross.
