Peru gastronomy sector will generate 320,000 jobs this year, according to the chairman of the Peruvian Gastronomy Association (Apega) Economic Committee, Irzio Pinasco.

About 240,000 of these new jobs will be created in Lima, and there is still a great potential ready to be exploited in the interior of the country, Pinasco said.

He also remarked that in recent years the number of restaurants grew 45% nationwide, and that 68% of national franchise operations are correspond to the gastronomic sector.

"Eating is one of the main activities Peruvians usually do in their spare time, and there is also a growing recognition of Peruvian gastronomy among tourists,” he said.

Of the 320,000 gastronomy positions, how many are as waiters, waitresses, or dishwashers? How many are 'decent' paying positions with benefits such as health insurance and retirement benefits?
Or is this simply giving a fancy title to a low paying job such as
garbage collectors = sanitary engineers.
