According to a press release from the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, Peru's government granted a letter of safe-conduct to the indigenous leader Alberto Pizango Chota, former president of the Interethnic Association for Development of the Peruvian Jungle (Aidesep), who found refuge in the Embassy of Nicaragua in Lima. # Expat in Peru says :

There goes another "brave" leader. After the trial of Fujimori and Montesinos, and now this safe-conduct, Pizango cannot claim he was going to face a biased trial. If there was any moment he could have put the native cause into the spotlight, then the moment would have been now. Too bad he ran off with his tail between his legs.

"...he ran off with his tail between his legs." I think your comment is a little off. When the "Doctor" of the Republic is telling the public that you "have no crown" and you're a mere minority, and 28 million Peruvians hate your guts. There's no way that you are going to escape the punitive hand of the APRA party or even have a chance at a fair trial.Add your comment
Pizango's mistake was calling for an "insurgency"...too much ammo for his enemies consisting of powerful oil companies and corrupted politicians. Figure the odds...
