Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa received an honorary degree Wednesday from the University of Tokyo.

I never imagined that my books would break the barriers of language" or that "could reach Japan," Vargas Llosa told La Républica.

In the middle of his speech, he highlighted the influence of the Japanese in Peru as contributors to the mosaic of cultures that identify the country.

Vargas Llosa is the first writer to receive the "Honoris Causa" from the University of Tokyo.

The writer is in Japan for five days, during which he will participate in various cultural and academic promotions of Spanish language and Spanish culture.

Mario's got his vanity shined, destroyed the Fujimori Klan, destroyed the country he hated most, Peru,  with a comunist government (serves them right for not electing him in 1990).  The job he did for Spain is complete, no asian help for that spanish dependency.  He will never bother looking at Peru again, it is just too low for him.
