Nearly 13 months after the crime, and for the first time since the investigation launched, Dutch citizen Joran van der Sloot, charged with the murder of the young Stephany Flores Ramirez, agreed to cooperate with the judges and addressed them in Spanish Tuesday in the Miguel Castro Castro prison in San Juan de Lurigancho.

This was revealed by Edward Alvarez, a lawyer for the Flores family, reports El Comercio.

"First he viewed a video of the Municipality of Miraflores on the day of crime that did not provide any new data, then [Ricardo Flores] had to identify one of the wallets to see if it was Stephany's, and finally he was to listen to the driver that helped Van der Sloot flee by land to Chile, but this did not materialize because the driver did not arrive on time," Alvarez said.

Despite this setback, the lawyer said that the proceedings were completed in the investigation of the case, so the process will pass to the Third Criminal Court for inmates in prison.

"Today we will present the request to the prosecution [to stand trial for robbery followed by death] because we consider life imprisonment a just penalty. We hope that from here on out the case will move quickly," Alvarez said.

Although he looked calmer than during his first appearance last week, Ricardo Flores, father of Stephanie, could not avoid a break in his voice as he remembered the wallet that belonged to his daughter that was recovered by police after the capture of van der Sloot in Chile.

"I have to consult my wife, but I'm 95 percent sure that was Stephany's," he said upon leaving the prison.

Flores added that this time the Dutchman could only see his back. He insisted that the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) eliminate the supposed benefits that van der Sloot has in the prison, such as running a business selling snacks and receiving unauthorized visits by his supposed girlfriend, who is thought to be a casino worker in Atlantic City, where he met Stephanie. The INPE had no response to the concerns.

It is a shame if the INPE is giving this common criminal special treatment; he does not deserve to be treated any different than the rest. Why are they taking such a long time to process this case? I hope they do not end up letting him go due to a "technicality"... He deserves to be punish for all the crimes he has commited, and even the rest of his life behind bars will not be enough for the suffering he has caused not only one but two families...

Mr.Flores must feel good like a big man,he is a scumbag to me.I couldnt sleep knowing I was taking food from someone, but Peru is so inhuman that they treat their dogs better than their family members. Joran is doing what he is suppose to do,he is in the worst prison and having candy shouldnt be such a big deal. I see other prisoners whom may be starving and Joran simple helping them out. He may have done some not so nice things in his twenty four years of life, but he is still a human like you and me.I sure wouldnt want my son going hungry. This is a sad case for all the families involved in this. I hope Joran can serve his time in Holland,at least he could get food,I just cant see starving someone and not going to hell for it.Maybe he will luck up and get to serve sometime in the USA,at least we dont let prisoners starve. I will pray for Joran and the families involved, also.

Joran doesn't look like he is malnourished.  Boycoyt can prepare three square meals a day and deliver them to Joran if he likes.  Make that your personal mission in life.  Sorry, but I don't have any sympathy for the "Little Dutch Boy".  Thank God there is no death penalty in Peru.  That would be too leniant a punishment for him, in my opinion.  Hope he never gets the opportunity to "vacation" in a Dutch or American prison.  Here in Peru, he has more privilages than the other inmates.  Keep him healthy, so he can think about what he has done for many more years.

Hey Boycoyt are you related to Van der Slut...ooops Sloot. How can a person in their right mind call the Mr Flores a scumbag? I am certain if your kid or someone in your family was killed you would be singing a different tune. Van der Slut deserves only two thing, life without parole, but with food and for his time to be served in one of the worst prisons in Peru.

Van der Sloot is finally in the right place at Miguel Castro Castro.  It is one of the worst places in Peru and in this world for him to spend the remainder of his life.  It is the perfect place for him to rot away until he dies and goes to HELL.

No reason to permit him to be sent to a Dutch of US prison.

He has taken the life of Stephany Flores Ramirez for sure and likely the life of the beautiful young woman from Alabama as well.

So Miguel Castro Castro must be his home until his last day on this earth!Sealed

A scumbag liar, human trafficker, murderer, father hater, extortionist flies to peru, loses all his money, robs, murders, and pulls the pants off a Peruvian woman is caught and locked up and all Boycoyt can think about is whether or not Joran has candy in prison.  What a fool.

There is one person out there who writes under the names boycoyt, RachelM, MaryS, Dockie123, and several others.  That person claims to be woman married to a pastor of a church, a private detective, and an ex Canadian consulate to Peru.  He or she is not any of those.  Just a liar.

Boycoyt doesn't believe Joran is innocent, "she" justs writes this stuff for the shock value.  And it is pathetic that she's using the death of two young women and their grieving friends and families to get attention.

We have all seen Joran's "cooperation" in the past. Create a dozen different stories.  Mix in enough truth and lies and no one will know what really happened.

This is an open and shut case.  The only question remaining is can Joran make a deal with the prosecution to reduce his sentence for his "cooperation"?  Why would they? Joran has no credibility.  The prosecution doesn't need his "cooperation".  There is nothing he can say or add to the case.  It's over and the judge is going to give the prosecutor whatever he asks for.  Goodbye Joran.
