Tonight I was witness to the ultimate battle of the sexes. It occurred when I attended the play Tu O Yo, El Juicio Final; a comedy performed at the Teatro Mocha Graña in Barranco. First let me say that I highly recommend that you see this comedy and very quickly. The performances will end on June the 14th. It will be hard for me to review this without giving the whole thing away but I am going to give it a good shot. The play is in Spanish and at least a moderate command of the language is needed to keep up with the dialogue and rapid fire humor. But, if you are like me and your command of the language is minimal at best, you would still enjoy the fine comedic work of these actors. Fortunately I had some good company with me and was able to get the gist of most of the humor in the play.

The play is about an “It” born as a hermaphrodite with a full set of both sexual organs. On this premise the play goes forward with arguments by the “Its” organs on whether it would be better for “It” to be a Man or Woman fully. The acting in the play was lively and the comedi
c timing was superb. If I had any complaint it would be that a few times the music they were playing in the background was too loud and it was hard to hear the actors. This might have been a problem only at performance I attended so I don’t want to emphasize this too much. I could tell that the rest of the audience was enjoying the play and the humor as much as I was from their smiling faces and hearty laughter.
The actors and their parts were as follows:
Pene (the Penis)– Sergio Garcia-Blásquez
Vagina (the Vagina)– Daniela Baertl
Lengua (the Tongue)– Julio Diaz
Cerebro (the Brain)– Mariana Gonzales
Corazón (the Heart)– Tischa Aguirre
Estómago (the Stomach)– Andy Amable
All the actors put on a sterling performance but for me Julio Diaz as the Tongue (Lengua) stood out above the others. His lively antics, fantastic range of facial
expressions and vocalizations was very impressive. The friends who were with me admired the performances of Tischa Aguirre (Corazón) and Andy Amable (Estómago) as much as I did Julio’s. Kudos must go to the Director, Carmen Santur A. for putting together this fine cast and bringing out the tremendous performances of the entire group.
The Teatro Mocha Graña is a small community theater located on Av. Saenz Peña in Barranco. It seats approximately 100 persons comfortably and the setting is quite intimate. The stage is small and if you are in the front row you could actually reach out and touch the actors. I liked the intimacy of this theater very much. It pulls you into the performances and I think the actors enjoy the closeness of the audience also. They get to see and feel the reaction of the audience to their performances more personally. I think that everyone comes away a winner from performances in this theater.

I laughed and I enjoyed the fast click between the dialogues. Very good sence of humor and no vulgar attitude or language
