Is there nothing more impervious than Peruvian pride?
So much Peruvian energy spent on superficially wounded egos.
In 1910 could you find anyone in Lima or Cuzco who knew of the existance, nevertheless the importance of Macchu Picchu?
110 years after the fact, no one in the U.S. could care about Hiram Bingham and it's likely less than 1% even know who he was.
I am not wholly un-empathetic. Imagine if a Peruvian came to the United States in 1911 and reported to stunned audiences in Washington D.C., the existance of the Grand Canyon.
It happened. No one, except Peruvians, care. Get over it.
BTW...what's the opposition to a cable car? wouldnt that be more in keeping with the natural and historical character of Macchu Picchu than a hundred rickety buses zig-zagging up and down every day?

Thanks, Larry. It's encouraging to know that someone else is experiencing the same ups and downs in the process of language learning. I've been here five years, too, and I keep thinking I should be a lot more fluent by now than I am. However, I'm going to follow your advice: "be patient, be persistent, and enjoy your triumphs." Another reason for loving Peru...the breads. I too Paul, know the breads in Arequipa. One I really enjoy is called el pan de tres puntas with anise. DELICIOUS!! And, nothing finer than eating toasted bread with dulce de leche. After watching the video about El Pan de La Chola, I would like to go to Lima just to eat the breads there.[REPLY]

You're right while comparing Peruvian football with a beautifull complex woman, therefore you need two of them. When your football girl dissapoints you, switch to the other one. The later should also be a passion but from a different subject. I found is the best way to avoid a real bad time when our national team losses badly. [REPLY]
Jason's bread has gained rave reviews from friends/family last summer at Asia.

What I hope he will do to set him apart in a city of many bakeries is to offer some varieties of gluten free bread, since at least 1 person in 100 has celiac and can't eat wheat. At the present time there is no bakery offering edible GF products in Lima. There will be an immediate market.
If Jason's interested in good GF recipes, I'll be happy to share mine.
